Evaluation Question 1

Ancillary 2- Front Cover Final

The ideas for our magazine front cover came from the existing TV Easy magazine. We thought that the use of bright colours and bold text would suit best our parody. The pink background around the main story simply emphasises the humour that is still present, even though it is a serious storyline. The other images on the front cover are drawn from different soaps that our fellow students have created.

We also decided to make a second billboard poster, involving the main storyline between 'Chandelier', 'Mickey' and 'Rhino'. We used a dark background to emphasise the negativity of the storyline, and giving the billboard a gloomy look. The eye-contact between the two characters with Chandelier in the middle shows the conflict is over the female character. The slogan used on the billboard links to our magazine front cover, as this is the quote that anchors the main feature.

This was our finished product.

We took our billboard photos against a green screen allowing us to edit out the background colour and set our own. The photos were edited using photoshop, and kept with the E4 branding. When assembling the the ancillary we decided to choose individual colours for each character, allowing the audience to famliarise themselves with them.

We decided to use a billboard poster similar to the Ugly Betty one shown above. We chose a similar style because Ugly Betty is aimed at a similar target audience and is also shown on E4. I also think the way the billboard is set out, shows the different personalities of the character and this is what we were aiming for.

The E4 style guide gave us the conventions that our branding had to follow.

Ancillary Planning-Billboards

Ancillary Planning- Billboard Poster

Our second ancillary product is showing the main storyline within the trailer. We made sure that the poster will have a clear narrative to the audience and that the characters are easily recognisable.

We then drew a clear layout for our first ancillary product, deciding to display clearly all the characters and how they will be portrayed. The poster also included the brand name, days it is shown and time its on clearly making it stand out.

We drew up a rough plan of how our ancillary products will look, and the content that will be within them. We ensured that each poster would be clearly understandable and have a clear narrative to the audience. We also decided to promote the parody by using different social media groups, e.g. Facebook and Twitter
